Hand & Wrist Conditions We Commonly Treat at Crux Physio & Hand Therapy
At Crux Physio, we have extensive experience in treating a wide range of hand, wrist, and thumb conditions — from common overuse injuries to complex post-operative cases. Whether you’ve hurt yourself at work, while climbing, or doing everyday tasks, our goal is to help you regain comfort, confidence, and function.

Tendon-Related Injuries
De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
Pain along the thumb side of the wrist, often worsened by lifting, wringing, or using secateurs. Common in new parents, manual workers, and climbers.
Trigger Finger (Stenosing Tenosynovitis)
Catching, locking, or clicking of a finger or thumb during movement — typically worse in the morning or after gripping tasks.
Mallet Finger
An injury to the tendon at the tip of the finger, often caused by sudden force (like a ball striking the fingertip). It results in the inability to fully straighten the finger. Prompt splinting and guided rehab are key to optimal recovery.
Nerve Compression Syndromes
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the thumb, index, and middle fingers — especially at night. May need splinting or nerve gliding exercises.
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
Numbness or tingling in the ring and little fingers due to ulnar nerve irritation at the elbow. Often aggravated by prolonged elbow flexion.
Radial Tunnel Syndrome
A less common but painful condition affecting the back of the forearm, sometimes confused with tennis elbow.

Joint and Ligament Conditions
Thumb Osteoarthritis (CMCJ Arthritis)
Pain and weakness at the base of the thumb during gripping, pinching, or writing. Treated with targeted strengthening and custom splints.
TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) Injury
Common in climbers and those with wrist twisting injuries. Causes pain on the small-finger side of the wrist, especially during rotation or weight-bearing.
Scapholunate Ligament Injury
Often from a fall on the hand — causes deep wrist pain, instability, and difficulty pushing through the wrist.
UCL Injury (Skier’s/Gamekeeper’s Thumb)
Ligament sprain or tear on the inside of the thumb from sudden force or overstretching.
Fractures and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
Distal Radius Fracture
The most common wrist fracture. Rehab focuses on regaining range of motion, strength, and confidence after casting or surgery.
Scaphoid Fracture
A tricky wrist fracture that requires careful splinting and graduated return to load-bearing.
Metacarpal and Phalangeal Fractures
Injuries to the bones of the fingers or hand — may be managed conservatively or post-operatively with splints and progressive loading.
Tendon Repairs or Transfers
We provide early to late-phase rehab following hand surgery, working closely with surgeons to ensure safe recovery.

Climbing-Specific & Overuse Injuries
Pulley Strains (A2/A4 Injuries)
Pain and swelling at the base of the finger after crimping or dynamic moves. Early load management and taping strategies are key.
Overuse Tendinopathies
Repetitive loading in work or sport can irritate soft tissues in the wrist and hand — early intervention prevents chronic pain.
Hand and Wrist Sprains
Whether from a fall, jammed finger, or awkward landing, we help reduce swelling, restore motion, and build strength.
Custom Splinting Available
We offer same-day or next-day custom thermoplastic splints for:
- Trigger finger
- De Quervain’s
- Thumb arthritis
- Post-fracture protection
- Post-operative positioning
